Minnesota Lighthouses On The North Shore
There is plenty to see and do in between visiting these lighthouses on your way to Lutsen or Duluth. Here are the best lighthouses to visit between Duluth and Grand Marais.
Duluth North Pier Lighthouse
On the Duluth end, one of the best lighthouses in the area is the Duluth North Pier Lighthouse. It was established in 1910. Visiting this 36-foot-tall lighthouse is a thrill because you can see the boats and ships entering Duluth.
Two Harbors Breakwater Lighthouse
Two Harbors Breakwater Lighthouse is a small but fascinating lighthouse to see up close. It was built in 1895. It’s much shorter than the other lighthouses you might visit. It also sticks out far into Lake Superior’s Agate Bay.
Two Harbors Lighthouse
Don’t leave Two Harbors without visiting the oldest lighthouse that is in continuous operation in the state. Two Harbors Lighthouse is about 50 feet tall and open to the public if you pay a fee during working hours.
Split Rock Lighthouse
Split Rock Lighthouse is a popular destination. A $10 fee is required to tour the lighthouse. The tour is well worth it because you will get some history and interesting insight into the lighthouse. You can also step into the old lighthouse keepers’ homes. They’ve been renovated to look as if they would have when they were in use.
Grand Marais Lighthouse
On the other end of your trip is the Grand Marais Lighthouse. It was built in 1885, and it’s another smaller lighthouse similar to what you would see in Two Harbors. It is free to walk up and admire. The old keeper’s house is now the Cook County Historical Museum, which is also worth checking out.
