Every year, there is that one stretch of summer that brings seemingly unbearable heat. It can feel like you have limited options to cool off and escape a heat wave. It can also be frustrating if that extreme heat arrives during a well-planned vacation.
This is why the North Shore in Minnesota is an excellent summer vacation place. Even when the weather warms up on the North Shore, there are more options for you and your family to cool off in Minnesota. One option is the vacation rentals available through Poplar River Condos at Lutsen. We also have cool and cozy cabins near Lake Superior.
Stay Cool In Lutsen, Minnesota, This Summer
It’s easy to stay cool and have fun while on your vacation in Minnesota. These are some of the best ways to cool off in the Lutsen, Minnesota, area any summer.
Lake Superior
It’s one of the biggest and best attractions on Minnesota’s North Shore. Lake Superior brings a cool breeze, and it’s gorgeous to look at.
If you want to admire an especially stunning view, you should travel toward Grand Marais to visit the Butterwort Cliffs Scientific and Natural Area. It’s a unique area along the shoreline that you won’t regret visiting.
A beautiful and fantastic place to dip your toes into Lake Superior is the Icelandite Coastal Fen. This fen is one of two known existing coastal wetlands on Lake Superior’s north shore. The Minnesota DNR states that “A fen is a grassy or shrubby wetland fed by slow-moving groundwater with a buildup of peat.” The area is also part of the Superior Hiking Trail.
One more popular spot is the Grand Marais Harbor. This location is great because it is right in the heart of Grand Marais. There are plenty of things to do downtown after you’ve dried off.
Onion River Swimming Hole
This is a great hidden gem in the area. The Onion River Swimming Hole is between Lutsen and Tofte and is accessible via a hiking trail. Depending on the water’s height, you can hike along the river if it’s low, and if it’s high, you can make your way up to the swimming hole for some fun.
Mink Lake
One of the best lakes in the area is just under an hour’s drive away. Mink Lake has a wonderful swimming beach. It’s also a fairly shallow lake, with its deepest point dropping 15 feet. The water is pleasantly cool, and the lake’s depth is perfect for wading.
